The Borough of Fort Lee hereby creates the position of Public Defender for the Borough of Fort Lee, whose duty shall be to provide a legal defense to those indigent defendants as determined by the borough's Municipal Judges.
The Mayor shall nominate, with the consent of the governing body, an attorney at law of the State of New Jersey at the beginning of each calendar year to fill the position of Public Defender.
The borough shall annually set the hours of employment and remuneration for the Public Defender.
The Municipal Court Judge may require any person applying for representation by the Municipal Public Defender to pay an application fee of not more than $200. Said fee shall be payable to the municipality, through the Municipal Court.
