GENERAL REFERENCES

This chapter shall be known and may be cited and referred to as the "Snow Hill Alternative Community Services Ordinance."
The provisions of this chapter shall apply to offenders convicted of committing nonviolent crimes occurring within the corporate limits of the Town of Snow Hill, Maryland.
Eligibility for entry into the program shall be limited to persons, both adult and juvenile, charged with nonviolent criminal offenses, who have no prior criminal convictions and who have been tried by a court of competent jurisdiction on the pending nonviolent criminal offenses.
The program established by this chapter shall, whenever practicable, include activities which will benefit the community and assist the victims of the crime and others who may be damaged or inconvenienced by the criminal activity.
The Administrator for the Town of Snow Hill shall have the authority to determine the appropriate and acceptable alternative community services program to be carried out by offenders sentenced pursuant to this chapter. It shall be the responsibility and function of the Administrator to establish a program for alternative community services and to utilize various town departments for carrying out the intent of this chapter. The Administrator shall be responsible for reporting to the appropriate court that each participant sentenced to take part in the program has either completed the program satisfactorily or has not completed the program satisfactorily.
The Administrator of the Town of Snow Hill shall have the authority to determine the appropriate and acceptable alternative community service programs as existing in other jurisdictions and to establish reciprocity agreements with such jurisdictions if he deems such a practice appropriate.
