The specific purposes of this chapter are as follows:
A. 
To guide and regulate the orderly growth and development of the Borough of Longport in accordance with any duly enacted comprehensive plan.
B. 
To protect the established character and social and economic well-being of the community.
C. 
To secure safety from fire, flood and other dangers.
D. 
To provide adequate light, air and property access.
E. 
To lessen congestion.
F. 
To facilitate adequate provision for transportation, schools, parks and other public facilities and services.
G. 
To prevent overcrowding of land and buildings.
H. 
To avoid undue concentration of population.
I. 
To preserve and enhance important characteristics of the natural environment.
Terms defined in the Longport Development Procedures Ordinance shall have the meanings provided therein, as stated in Chapter 15,[1] and additional terms defined in N.J.S.A. 40:55D-1 et seq. shall have the meanings provided therein, unless the context clearly indicates a different meaning. Where a difference exists between N.J.S.A. 40:55D-1 et seq. and this ordinance,[2] the definition provided for in this ordinance shall govern.
