The Selectmen shall exercise a general supervision over all matters
affecting the interests or welfare of the Town.
The Selectmen may appear either personally or by counsel before any
committee of the legislature, or board, or commission, to protect the interests
of the Town, but are not authorized by the By-Law to commit the Town to any
course of action.
The Selectmen shall have full authority, as agents of the Town, to institute
and prosecute suits in the name of the Town, to appear and defend suits brought
against it, and to appear on its behalf in proceedings before any committee
or tribunal, except as otherwise provided herein, and unless it is specially
ordered by vote of the Town as provided by law. They shall consider all claims
made against the Town for damages, or breach of contract, and may, with the
advice of counsel, settle the same, provided that in no case shall a settlement
be so made by a payment of more than $500 without authority from the Town.

The Selectmen shall have the right to sell any personal property of
the Town, provided that the Selectmen shall first give notice of any intended
or agreed-upon sale at a price in excess of $5,000 by publishing the same
in a newspaper of general circulation in the Town not less than 10 days prior
to such sale.
The Selectmen are authorized to allocate all insurance for the protection
of the Town.
