The Select Board[1] shall have authority to prosecute, defend or compromise
all claims, actions, suits and controversies to which the town shall
be a party and to employ counsel therefor unless otherwise specifically
ordered by vote of the town.

The Select Board may appear (either personally
or by representative) before any committee of the legislature or board
or commission to protect the interest of the town, but are not authorized
by this chapter to commit the town to any course of action.
All deeds or other instruments required to carry
into effect any vote of the town shall be executed by the Select Board,
unless the town shall otherwise direct.
A.
The disposal of any personal property of the town
must have the approval of the Select Board. Any and all proceeds resulting
therefrom shall be paid in to the town treasury. The department head
shall file a written report of the sale with the Town Clerk.
B.
The Select Board shall cause each town officer and
department head under its control having custody of town property
to keep a true inventory thereof on file, and each officer and department
head shall deliver a copy of said inventory to the Select Board at
least annually.
C.
No town officer or salaried employee of the town shall
sell materials or supplies or rent equipment of the town without the
permission of the Select Board expressed in a vote which shall appear
on their records with the reasons therefor.
