No elected municipal officer shall hold or retain more than one publicly elected position within the Borough of Highland Park.
No elected municipal officer shall hold or retain any other publicly elected office within the county, state or federal governments. Any person accepting any other elected office shall be deemed thereby to have vacated any office previously held by him/her within the municipality. Except that the elected municipal officer may complete his or her term of office if that term is less than one year.
Nothing within this article shall prohibit an elected municipal officer from simultaneously holding an appointed position within the municipality, county or state, which is not incompatible or in conflict with his/her municipal office.
As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meaning indicated:
ELECTED MUNICIPAL OFFICER
A person serving as Mayor or member of the Borough Council, whether elected or appointed to that position.
