It is hereby provided that, pursuant to the provisions of the Borough Code of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, an independent auditor shall be appointed for the Borough of Chambersburg and that such independent auditor shall be a certified public accountant, registered in Pennsylvania, a firm of certified public accountants so registered or a competent public accountant or a competent firm of public accountants.[1]

An independent auditor shall be appointed annually for each fiscal year after the fiscal year 1977 unless this chapter shall be repealed.
The office of elected Borough Auditor for the Borough of Chambersburg is hereby abolished, except that the Borough Auditors now in office shall continue to hold their office during the term for which elected, but the Borough Auditors shall not audit, settle, or adjust the accounts audited by such independent auditor but shall perform the other duties of their office.
The compensation of the independent auditor shall be as may be fixed from time to time by the Town Council of the Borough of Chambersburg.
