Town of Denton, MD Chapter 36 Bicycles and Skateboards

§ 36-1 Skateboards prohibited on streets and sidewalks; exception.

No person shall ride or operate a skateboard on any sidewalk, street or roadway, within the Town of Denton, with the exception of that designated area within Crouse Memorial Park.

§ 36-2 Reckless operation prohibited.

No person shall ride or operate a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, roller skates, sled or other toy vehicle in a reckless or uncontrollable manner on any street or roadway located within the corporate limits of the Town of Denton.

§ 36-3 Violations and penalties.

A. Any person violating the provisions of § 36-1 or 36-2 hereof shall be guilty of a municipal infraction and, any provision of this Code to the contrary notwithstanding, shall be subject to a fine of $5 for a first offense and $10 for each subsequent offense.

B. In the event that any law enforcement officer of the Town of Denton observes any minor child operating a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, roller skates, sled or toy vehicle in violation of the provisions of this chapter, the law enforcement officer may confiscate the skateboard, scooter, etc., operated by said minor child and shall return the skateboard, scooter, etc., only to the said minor's parent or guardian. The law enforcement officer shall be authorized to confiscate a skateboard, scooter, etc., under the provisions of this subsection whether or not he or she issues a citation for violations of this chapter.
