A. 
All classifications of buildings listed below, which buildings are constructed after the effective date of this article, shall be required to have approved sprinkler systems as hereinafter listed and defined. Such systems shall be approved by the New York Board of Fire Underwriters, Factory Mutual National Fire Protection Association or other nationally recognized approval organization prior to installation and shall meet all prescribed standards of installation and operations.
(1) 
Multiple dwellings, including apartment buildings, cooperative apartments and condominiums, except enclosed closets 50 square feet or less in area and bathrooms.
(2) 
Office buildings.
(3) 
Administrative buildings.
(4) 
Bank buildings.
(5) 
Professional buildings.
(6) 
Retail and personal service buildings (mercantile).
(7) 
Industrial buildings.
(8) 
Storage buildings.
(9) 
Amusement park buildings.
(10) 
Armories.
(11) 
Art galleries.
(12) 
Assembly halls.
(13) 
Auditoriums.
(14) 
Bathhouses.
(15) 
Bowling alleys.
(16) 
Club rooms.
(17) 
Coliseums and stadiums.
(18) 
Courtrooms and buildings.
(19) 
Dance halls.

Exhibition halls or buildings.

All attached one-family cluster housing, exclusive of modular construction. The installation of sprinklers, where required, may be supplied from a domestic service line as per National Fire Protection Association 13D.

One-, two- and three-family residences in detached structures.
B. 
Height requirements. All buildings required by this article to install approved automatic sprinkler systems must do so, irrespective of building height, including installation in basement areas.
No building permit shall be issued for the construction of any building, structure or portion thereof unless compliance is met, as defined in § 143-3A above.
No certificate of occupancy shall be issued for occupancy or use of any building, structure or portion thereof required to have a sprinkler system, as defined in § 143-3A above, unless such system is installed, inspected, tested and approved.
Sprinklers shall not be required to be installed in spaces where the discharge of water would be hazardous. In such places, other approved fire-extinguishing equipment shall be provided by the Fire Prevention Code.[1]

Buildings more than two stories in height, in addition to meeting the sprinkler requirements as hereinbefore defined, shall conform to the following:
A. 
All walls enclosing elevator shafts, except the walls with elevator door openings, shall be constructed of approved masonry materials.
B. 
Walls enclosing all stairwells shall be constructed of approved masonry materials.

Any person who violates any provision of this article shall be punished subject to the penalties prescribed by § 1-14 of the Village Code.
