Editor's Note: This local law also superseded former Ch. 50,
Police Department, which was comprised of Art. I, Workers' Compensation
for Auxiliary Police, adopted 6-15-1987 by L.L. No. 4-1987, as amended.
The purpose of this chapter is to abolish the Police Department in compliance
with the requirements of the Rockland County Police Act, effective December
31, 2005.
The Village of Haverstraw Police Department is hereby abolished effective
December 31, 2005, subject to mandatory referendum.[1]

Editor's Note: At a referendum held 6-21-2005, a majority of
the qualified electors of the Village of Haverstraw voting agreed to abolish
the Village of Haverstraw Police Department.
The Village Clerk is directed to notify the Division of Criminal Justice
Service within 30 days of the effective date of this chapter abolishing the
Village's Police Department.
