The Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of Massapequa Park
hereby finds and declares that lighters, matches, and similar devices ("lighter
devices") pose a serious health and safety risk to our children and property
when these devices are used by minors. The unregulated sale and dispensing
of lighter devices may cause serious injury to our Village residents.
No person shall sell or offer to sell in any way or dispense or provide
a lighter device to any person under the age of 18 years.
A violation of this chapter shall be deemed a violation and not a crime,
punishable by a fine to be set by the court not to exceed $1,000 for first
offense; $2,000 for a second offense; and $3,000 for the third or for a subsequent
offense.
