There is hereby created the River Vale Police Reserve to act in conformity with N.J.S.A. 40:47-19,[1] and any other statute pertaining thereto, and this chapter and rules and regulations promulgated by the municipal governing body and the Chief of Police.

Members thereof shall be appointed by the governing body for terms of not more than one year, and proper certificates of appointment and badges shall be given for the duration of said appointments.
All members shall be citizens of the United States, able to read and write, physically qualified and of good moral character. All members shall subscribe to an oath to be administered at the time of appointment. The qualifications of each member shall be investigated before his appointment by the Chief of Police and shall be reported to the governing body.
The River Vale Police Reserve and all members thereof shall be under the direction and supervision of the Chief of Police of River Vale, and each member shall perform his duties as directed by said Chief within the borders of the Township of River Vale and shall comply with the rules and regulations promulgated for regular members of the River Vale Police Department.
