As used in this article, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
POLITICAL SIGN
A sign which directs attention to an issue, issues, candidate or candidates for public consideration in an election.
No political sign shall be erected, posted or placed on public property.
A. 
No political sign shall be erected, posted or placed on private property without the express consent of the owner, who shall then be responsible for compliance with this article.
B. 
No sign in excess of eight square feet shall be permitted to be placed on grounds or yards, front, rear or side, facing any public street. All such signs must be at least eight feet from the inner sidewalk line, and if there is no sidewalk, 20 feet from the street line.
C. 
No sign in excess of eight square feet shall be permitted on any private building, except that each political candidate shall be entitled to one sign on one private building designated as said candidate's campaign headquarters.
Political signs posted on fire hydrants, public telephone booths, public utility poles or similar public fixtures are expressly prohibited.
Signs may be posted for any national, state or local election no sooner than 30 days prior to the date of the election and must be removed eight days after the date of the election.
The erection, posting and placing of each individual sign shall constitute a separate offense.
A. 
Any person who shall violate any provision of this article by permitting signs on his premises contrary to the above provisions shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $100.
B. 
Any political candidate who, directly or indirectly or by his agent or representative, permits such violation for 72 hours after notification to remove the same shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $150.
This article shall take effect immediately upon final passage and publication as required by law.
