All active members of the City Fire Department
engaged in carrying out their respective duties under this chapter
shall be invested with necessary police powers for the purposes of
enforcing the provisions of this chapter. These police powers shall
be in addition to those to be exercised by the Police Department of
the City of Somers Point.
This chapter shall take effect upon final passage
and publication thereof. However, officers holding office in the City
Fire Department pursuant to the terms of Ordinance No. 30 of 1984,
as amended,[1] shall remain in their respective officer positions from the effective date of this chapter and until officers pursuant to this chapter are selected in January 1991, as set forth in Article I, § 29-4, of this chapter. All other provisions of this chapter, inclusive of but not limited to duties and conduct of officers, shall take effect upon final passage and publication thereof.
