A Municipal Clerk shall be appointed by the
governing body for a term consistent with, and in compliance with,
the existing state law governing such appointment. Said Municipal
Clerk, having held such office continually for five years from the
date of the original appointment, shall have tenure in such office
and shall not be removed except for good cause shown, after a fair
and impartial hearing.
The governing body, by ordinance, shall fix
and determine the salary to be paid to the Borough Clerk, which salary
may be, from time to time, increased, decreased, or altered. No such
ordinance shall reduce the salary of or deny to the Clerk during the
term for which he shall have been appointed, without good cause, an
increase in salary given all other municipal officers and employees.
Any Clerk appointed for so long as the population
of the Borough of Chester shall be less than 2,500 may reside without
the Borough of Chester.
