The Board of Supervisors of Mount Joy Township hereby create a Mount Joy Township Planning Commission.

The Mount Joy Planning Commission shall have the powers, duties and responsibilities as provided for in Act 247, Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code,[1] as amended. It is the intent of this chapter that all recommendations of the Planning Commission to the Supervisors shall be advisory only.

The Planning Commission shall consist of five (5) members, appointed by the Board of Supervisors, all of whom shall be residents of Mount Joy Township. No less than three (3) shall be citizen members.

Members shall be compensated at the rate of $50 per meeting and/or workshop which they attend, and which has been publicly advertised, not to exceed $1,875 annually. Members may also be reimbursed for reasonable and necessary expenses upon approval of such expenses by the Supervisors.
Terms of office shall be for four (4) years excepting for initial appointments which shall be fixed so that no more than two (2) members shall be reappointed or replaced in any one (1) calendar year. Initial appointments shall be as follows:

The Planning Commission shall elect its officers and adopt its bylaws in accordance with Act 247. The Commission shall keep a record of its activities and business and shall annually provide a written report of its activities to the Supervisors prior to March 1st. Interim reports may be made as deemed necessary by the Planning Commission or as requested by the Supervisors.
