The Fire Chief of the Town of North Haven may require a Knox Box or an equivalent key box to be installed on or in any industrial or commercial building, factory, store or warehouse or on or in any apartment building as defined in the Connecticut Fire Safety Code at a location determined by the Fire Chief whenever access to or within a structure or an area is unduly difficult because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for lifesaving or fire-fighting purposes.
The Knox Box or equivalent key box shall contain keys to locked points of ingress whether on the interior or exterior of such property, keys to other areas as directed by the Fire Chief, hazardous materials information as defined in the Connecticut General Statutes or other information in accordance with regulations promulgated by the Fire Chief.
Keys to Knox Boxes or equivalent key boxes shall be held by authorized personnel of the Fire Department only.
Failure to comply with a directive by the Fire Chief in accordance with this Article within 60 days shall be in violation of this Article, punishable by a fine not to exceed $50 for each day of noncompliance.
