[Adopted 12-10-1975 by Ord. No. 648]
The attached drawing of the new seal shall become part of this article, and its significant features are meant to be representative of the following:
A.
The oak tree in the background represents the three-hundred-year-old Penn Oak Tree situate on East Mill Road, Flourtown, which is in the process of being felled on the date this chapter is enacted.
B.
The shield superimposed on the Penn Oak Tree is the shield of the Penn family.
C.
Within the upper half of the shield is a hand representative of William Penn "treating" with the Indians from whom he "bought" his land.
D.
On the lower left of the shield is a sheaf of wheat representing the early farming and milling industries.
E.
On the lower right of the shield the shovel and pick represent the early lime and iron-ore quarrying.
F.
The date, 1681, is when the "Manor of Springfield" was created.
G.
The rays of the sun in the background of the shield project a bright future for the Township.
