Editor's Note: This ordinance repealed former Ch. 158, Adopt-A-Highway
Program, adopted 11-12-2002 by Ord. No. 3742-02.
There is hereby established in the Township of Toms River an
Adopt-A-Highway Program to be done in conjunction with the New Jersey
Adopt-A-Highway Program of the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The purpose of this program is to beautify the state highways
that run through the Township of Toms River, provide personal satisfaction
to the participants, instill civic pride and save taxpayer dollars.
Individuals, organizations and businesses can participate in
the Adopt-A-Highway Program by agreeing to do any of the following:
A.
Pick up roadside litter for two years on a section of highway, a
minimum of four times a year, or more, if desired.
B.
Plant and establish small trees, shrubs and/or flowers on any signed
section of highway and maintain them for two years.
C.
Provide lawn mowing services along the adopted section of highway
for a minimum of two years.
Participants in the Adopt-A-Highway Program must enter into
an Adopt-A-Highway maintenance agreement with the New Jersey Department
of Transportation. A copy of that agreement will be provided to the
Township.
The Township will provide assistance and help to coordinate
the work of the volunteers on the state highways within the Township
of Toms River.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation will provide participants
with approved safety equipment, other necessary equipment and technical
support, as well as recognition signs.
All participants must follow the rules and regulations that
have been established by the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
