[HISTORY: Adopted by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Kenilworth 4-8-1975 by Ord. No. 75-4. Amendments noted where applicable.]
There is hereby established in the Borough of Kenilworth a Borough Office of Consumer Affairs headed by a Borough Consumer Assistance Officer.
The Borough Consumer Assistance Officer shall be appointed in the same manner as is provided by law for other appointed officers of the Borough and shall serve for a term of two calendar years, except for the officer first appointed who shall serve until December 31, 1976. The Borough Consumer Assistance Officer shall complete, as soon as is practicable, such training and education as may be prescribed for consumer affairs local assistance officers by the Division of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Law and Public Safety of the State of New Jersey.

The Borough Office of Consumer Affairs shall:
A. 
Receive, investigate and forward complaints from persons, firms and corporations relating to consumer affairs to appropriate municipal, state and federal agencies.
B. 
Mediate disputes between businessmen and consumers.
C. 
Advise the governing body in regard to matters affecting consumer affairs and recommend the adoption of such ordinances as may be deemed reasonable and proper.
D. 
Disseminate information to the public relating to consumer affairs.
E. 
Cooperate with other agencies, private and governmental, dealing with consumer affairs and, insofar as is authorized by law and under the supervision and direction of the Division of Consumer Affairs and the Department of Public Law and Safety, enforce applicable laws and ordinances.
F. 
Report monthly to the governing body on its activities.
G. 
Maintain regular office hours, including hours in the evening, at such times as will adequately serve the public.
H. 
Perform such other acts as may be incidental to its powers and duties.
