Standards regulating the maintenance of multiple dwellings and hotels are hereby established pursuant to N.J.S.A. 55:13A-25. The standards established and adopted by this chapter are commonly known as "Subchapter 2, Definitions," and "Subchapter 19, Maintenance," of the Regulations for Maintenance of Hotels and Multiple Dwellings of the New Jersey Bureau of Housing Inspection and are set forth in N.J.A.C. 5:10. A copy of said standards is annexed hereto and made a part hereof without the inclusion of the text thereof herein. All amendments, additions, deletions, supplements, revisions or modifications to said standards by the State of New Jersey after the effective date of adoption of this section shall be automatically deemed adopted and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this chapter.
Two copies of said standards shall be placed on file in the office of the Township Clerk for use and examination by the public.
Any person, partnership or corporation owning a hotel or multiple dwelling or any officer, partner, director or manager thereof or any person residing in any hotel or multiple dwelling, who shall fail to correct or cease a violation of any of said standards within seven days after receipt of written notice of such violation shall, upon conviction, be punishable for each violation by a fine not to exceed $500 or by imprisonment in the county jail for a period not to exceed 90 days, or both. Each violation of any of the provisions of this chapter and each seven-day period the same is violated, or part thereof, shall be deemed and taken to be a separate and distinct offense.
This chapter and the standards established hereunder shall be enforced by the Fire Marshal, such other members of the Fire Department who are designated to serve in the Bureau of Fire Prevention and such other persons who may be designated by the Director of the Department of Public Safety.
The Fire Marshal or other person or persons designated by the Director of the Department of Public Safety shall have discretion to grant, in writing, for good cause, extensions of time for the correction of any violation of said standards. Each extension shall not exceed 30 days in length. More than one extension may be given.
