This chapter shall be known as the "Firearms Regulating Ordinance."

Considerable damage is being done to property of residents of the Town
of Gates and the lives and persons of the inhabitants thereof are being placed
in jeopardy by careless use of firearms, air guns, spring guns and bow and
arrow. It is the purpose of this chapter to preserve and to promote the health,
safety, morals and general welfare of the inhabitants of the Town of Gates.

No person shall fire or discharge or cause to be fired or discharged
any bow and arrow; any gun, revolver, pistol or other firearm; or any air
gun, spring gun or other instrument or weapon in which the propelling force
is a spring or air, within the Town of Gates.
The Chief of Police of the Town of Gates and the peace officers shall
enforce the provisions of this chapter.

Any person, firm or corporation who violates any provision of this chapter
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to a fine of not more than $1,000
or imprisonment for a period of not more than one year, or both such fine
and imprisonment.

The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to any peace officer
or other law enforcement officers while engaged in the performance of their
duties.

The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to the discharge of rifles
or firearms on target ranges approved by the Chief of Police of the Town of
Gates. Such target ranges shall be constructed, maintained and supervised
in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Chief of Police of the Town
of Gates and shall be subject to inspection by any duly authorized peace officer.
