[Amended 11-6-2012]
No person shall hold more than one (1) elective or Council appointed office, position, or committee membership at the same time in the Town of North Branford, except that of Notary Public or Justice of the Peace, or membership on a joint board, commission or committee or coordinating body, and no person shall hold incompatible Town offices as set forth in the General Statutes.
Any elected or appointed officer or any employee of the Town who has a financial interest, direct or indirect, in any contract, transaction or decision of any board or commission to which the Town is a party, shall disclose that interest to the Council who shall record such disclosure upon the official record of its meetings. A violation by any such officer or employee of the provisions of this section shall be grounds for removal. A violation of this section with the knowledge, express or implied, of any person or corporation participating in such contract, transaction or decision shall render the same voidable by the Council or by a court of competent jurisdiction. The Council may, in accordance with the provisions of Article IV, by ordinance, supplement the provisions of this section.
Remuneration, if any, of elective and appointive officers (which term includes all board and commission members) or clerks of boards and commissions shall be set by the annual Town budget or by ordinance, provided that remuneration of any elective or appointive Town officer shall not be diminished during his or her term of office.
All elective and appointive officers and commission members shall be sworn to the faithful performance of their duties by anyone empowered to administer oaths under the General Statutes.
In computing the period of time of any notice under this Charter, the day on which the notice is given shall be excluded and the day on which the matter notice is to occur shall be included. The same principle shall govern other computations of time for purposes hereof.
If any section of this Charter shall be held invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, such holding shall not affect the remainder of this Charter nor the context in which such section so held invalid may appear, except to the extent that an entire section or part of a section may be inseparably connected in meaning and effect with the section or part of section to which such holding shall directly apply.
