Editor's Note: This local law was approved by a majority of the voters of the Town of Saugerties at the election held 11-6-2007.
The Town Board desires to adopt and approve a resolution that the following proposition should be presented for consideration by the electors of the Town of Saugerties, pursuant to the provisions of the Town Law at the next biennial Town election to be held on November 6, 2007, viz: "Shall the term of office of the Town Clerk of the Town of Saugerties be increased from two years to four years."
The Board resolves that, if the foregoing proposition be adopted by a majority of the electors of the Town, that the term of office of the Town Clerk shall be increased from two years to four years, it shall be effective to elections occurring subsequent to the approval by the voters of the proposition to increase the term.
The Town Clerk shall give notice of such proposition at the expense of the Town at least 10 days prior to the election, by the publication of a notice in the official newspaper of the Town published in the Town of Saugerties and by the posting of such notice on the sign board of the Town, setting forth in full the proposition to be voted upon and specifying that the proposition will be submitted at the biennial Town election to be held on November 6, 2007.

This article shall be known as the "Local Law Extending the Term of the Office of the Superintendent of Highways of the Town of Saugerties, County of Ulster, State of New York."
The purpose of this article is to extend the term of office for the Superintendent of Highways from two years to four years. The Town Board believes an extended term would bring greater continuity to the office and thus believes that the extended term is in the public's best interest. It is the intention of the Town Board to supersede Town Law § 24 and any other conflicting provision of the Town Law.
This article is enacted pursuant to the Town's authority under §§ 10(1)(ii)(a) and 23(2)(e) of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York.
This article shall extend the term of office of the Town Superintendent of Highways from two years to four years. Such four-year term shall commence as of January 1, 2018, and shall apply to the person elected to such office at the biennial Town election to be held in November 2017, and to those elected thereafter.
A. 
In accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Home Rule Law of the State of New York, this article shall not become operative or effective unless and until it shall have been approved at the next general election held within the Town of Saugerties, Ulster County, New York, in November 2016 by the affirmative vote of a majority of the qualified electors of the Town of Saugerties voting upon the proposition.[1]

B. 
This article shall take effect, if approved as set forth above by the electors, upon the filing with the office of the Secretary of State.
