A. 
The position of Fire Official is hereby established in the Department of Administration.
B. 
The Manager shall appoint the Fire Official in accordance with § C-804A(1) and (2) of the Borough Charter.
A. 
The Fire Official shall have the duties and responsibilities as enumerated in the latest BOCA Basic Fire Prevention Code, as adopted in § 165-1 as the Fire Prevention Code.
B. 
The Fire Official may establish rules and regulations to implement the enforcement of the Fire Prevention Code, subject to the approval of Council.
C. 
The Fire Official shall inspect all nonresidential structures on a regular basis, at least once per year.
D. 
The Fire Official shall inspect the common areas, hallways, basements, attics, garages and storage areas of all residential structures, excluding one- and two-family dwellings.
E. 
The Fire Official shall work closely with the Volunteer Fire Department and use its assistance whenever practical.
A. 
The Fire Official shall be entitled to a salary as established by Council from time to time, in accordance with the Borough Charter.
B. 
The Fire Official shall be entitled to reimbursement for any necessary travel expenses, as provided by ordinance from time to time.

The Volunteer Fire Company and its membership are hereby authorized to perform the following duties in addition to the normal fire-fighting, rescue and emergency medical duties:
A. 
To engage in any and all public safety activities undertaken by the Volunteer Fire Company to render care to the injured, prevent loss of life, provide comfort and security to victims and limit or prevent damage to or loss of property as circumstances may dictate.
B. 
Mutual aid.
(1) 
To provide mutual aid to other communities requesting the Company's assistance in emergency situations which are beyond their ability to handle with their own equipment, personnel and facilities. This aid shall include, but shall not be limited to:
(a) 
Fire-suppression activities;
(b) 
Rescues and searches;
(c) 
Ambulance and emergency medical duties;
(d) 
Hazardous materials incidents;
(e) 
Evacuations;
(f) 
Aid for natural disasters such as floods, storms, etc.; and
(g) 
Command assistance.
(2) 
The Volunteer Fire Company shall answer calls from other communities for mutual aid, provided such communities are within such reasonable travel distances and times as to enable the Volunteer Fire Company to continue to provide an acceptable level of protection for the Borough at all times.
C. 
To render assistance to police officers where such aid is specifically requested;
D. 
To participate in drills, practices, training sessions and pre-fire planning activities authorized by the Volunteer Fire Company;
E. 
To participate in community celebrations, ceremonial observances and funerals for deceased firefighters or other public figures where such attendance is deemed appropriate and is authorized by the Volunteer Fire Company;
F. 
To prepare for and responsibly participate in parades;
G. 
To engage in any public service or function performed for the welfare of the Borough, provided that these activities are sanctioned by the Volunteer Fire Company;
H. 
To participate in fire prevention inspections, post-fire investigations, bomb searches and evacuation drills;
I. 
To participate in public programs to promote the health, safety and welfare of the community, to enlist new members, to solicit community support and to conduct fund-raising activities;
J. 
To safely and responsibly perform maintenance and remodeling work on Volunteer Fire Company vehicles, buildings, grounds and equipment; and
K. 
To perform such other duties as are necessary for the efficient operation of volunteer fire services that may, from time to time, be assigned by Council, the Manager or officers of the Volunteer Fire Company.
