[Adopted 12-6-1968 (Ch. 5 of the 1977 Code)]
There is hereby established in and for the Township of White the position of Construction Official.
The Construction Official shall receive applications for building permits; examine plans for new structures to see that they comply with the Zoning Ordinance[1] and other applicable ordinances; determine that building repairs and alterations conform to established rules and regulations; periodically inspect buildings within the municipality to assure that construction and alteration work follows approved plans; and enforce all laws relating to the construction, alteration, removal or demolition of buildings and structures except as may be otherwise provided for in other ordinances or regulatory measures. He shall issue building permits upon payment of the fees prescribed and shall also issue certificates of occupancy following applications being filed therefor with the Township Clerk, upon compliance by the applicant with all validly existing laws and ordinances. The Construction Official shall, in addition to the foregoing, conduct such inspections and investigations as are necessary to enforce compliance with all other existing ordinances of the Township of White, and to that end is authorized to institute such proceedings as may be necessary, from time to time, to effect enforcement thereof.

The Construction Official shall keep comprehensive records of applications, of permits and certificates issued, of reports rendered and of notices or orders issued. He shall retain on file copies of required plans and all documents relating to building work. All such records shall be open for inspection for good and sufficient reasons at the Municipal Building at stated office hours or at such other times as may be established therefor by the Construction Official. The Construction Official shall make written reports to the Township Committee once each month or oftener if requested, including a statement of permits and certificates issued and orders promulgated.

The term of office of the Construction Official shall be for a period of four years, to commence on January 1 of the year in which the appointment is made by the Township Committee.
The Construction Official shall receive such compensation as shall be provided under "An Ordinance Fixing the Salaries of Several Township Officers and Officials of the Township of White, County of Warren and State of New Jersey," as the same shall be amended or supplemented from time to time.[1]
