[HISTORY: Adopted by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Highland Park by Ord. No. 71 (§ 3-8 of the 1987 Code); amended in its entirety 9-21-2010 by Ord. No. 10-1792. Subsequent amendments noted where applicable.]
A. 
The discharge of any firearms, bow and arrow, crossbow, slingshot, air gun, spring gun, gas gun or any other device which impels a projectile through the use of force is prohibited in the Borough of Highland Park.
B. 
Exceptions. The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to:
(1) 
Any duly appointed law officer in the course of his or her official duty.
(2) 
The use of firearms when necessary for the preservation of human life.
(3) 
The use of firearms when hunting in conformity with the applicable laws and regulations of the State of New Jersey.
(4) 
Use of a firearm on a licensed pistol, rifle or firearm range and under the supervision of the Police Department.

No person shall be permitted to carry any firearm, concealed or otherwise, in any public building at any time, including all public spaces owned, controlled or otherwise under the jurisdiction of the Borough of Highland Park, and in any school building or any spaces owned, controlled or otherwise under the jurisdiction of the Board of Education of the Borough of Highland Park, except for any duly appointed law enforcement officer in the course of his or her official duties.

Any person who shall violate any one of the foregoing provisions of this chapter shall be liable to a penalty as provided in Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article III, General Penalty.
