[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of County Commissioners of Allegany County 1-24-1977 by Bill No. 1-77, effective 3-10-1977 (Ch. 136 of the 1984 Code). Amendments noted where applicable.]
No person shall sell or solicit orders for the sale of any merchandise of any description, including books or periodicals, from door to door of private residences without a license; provided, however, that this section shall not apply to farmers or growers selling their own vegetables or other perishable farm product or products or to any person attending school who is under the age of 18 years or to vendors of milk or cream, bread, meat, fuels or petroleum products, fish or other seafood or newspapers.
All persons subject to the provisos of the Business Regulation Article, Title 17, Subtitle 9, of the Annotated Code of Maryland be and are hereby excluded from the provisos of this chapter.

All persons subject to the provisos of this chapter shall obtain a permit from the Clerk of the Circuit Court upon the furnishing of the following information:
A. 
Full name and address.
B. 
The name of the person for or in behalf of which he wishes to canvass or solicit and the home office address of such person.
C. 
If the applicant is a nonresident of the County, the address at which the applicant is residing in the County.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine not to exceed $100 or by imprisonment not to exceed 30 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
No person canvassing or soliciting within the meaning of this chapter shall do so other than between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
