When a property is protected by an automatic alarm system, or access to or within a structure, or an area on that property is unduly difficult because of secured openings, and where immediate access is necessary for life saving or firefighting purposes, the Fire Official may require a key box to be installed in an approved location. The key box shall be a type approved by the Fire Chief.

The key box shall contain the following:
A. 
Keys, pass cards, or code numbers to all locked points of ingress whether on the interior or exterior of such buildings.
B. 
Keys, pass cards, or code numbers to locked mechanical equipment rooms.
C. 
Keys, pass cards, or code numbers to locked electrical rooms.
D. 
Keys, pass cards, or code numbers to elevator controls.
E. 
Keys, pass cards, or code numbers to any other area as may be directed by the Fire Official.

All key boxes shall be approved by the Fire Chief prior to installation.
