Historical Notes:
The 4-7-1980 Town Meeting accepted MGL c. 41, § 1.
The statute was subsequently amended by St. 1980, c. 189, to provide
for election of one or more Constables for terms of one or more years,
or appointment in lieu of election by vote of the Town.]

The Town authorized the Select Board under the provisions of
MGL c. 41, § 1, to appoint Constables not to exceed five
in number, to serve for a term of three years from the date of their
appointment.
This authority shall commence on the day after the Annual Town
Election of 1983.
