The purpose of this chapter is to control and manage the deer
population within the Borough of Wharton.
A.
Hunting of deer is limited to the Borough property located on Irondale
Mountain and designated as Block 1501, Lot 1, only by permit issued
in accordance with this chapter.
B.
Hunting of deer shall be by bow and arrow only.
C.
Hunting shall be on the above property only on weekdays and Saturdays
beginning on September 1 and ending on November 30 during the fall
bow and permit bow seasons for deer as established annually by the
New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.

A.
Twenty-five permits will be issued by the Borough Clerk, during regular
business hours, each year on a first-come, first-served basis for
$25 each. Permits will be issued beginning on September 1 of each
year or on the next business day thereafter. Applications by mail
will be accepted but shall not be processed each day until after all
walk-in applicants that day are processed.
B.
All applicants must possess a current bow and arrow hunting license
issued by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. Hunters wishing
to hunt during the permit hunting season must also possess a valid
hunting season permit issued by the New Jersey Division of Fish and
Wildlife.
A.
All state hunting regulations, licensing requirements and permit
requirements shall remain in full force and effect except as expressly
modified herein. Permit holders are responsible for obtaining and
following all state regulations and Borough of Wharton park regulations.
B.
Permit holders shall be required to park their designated vehicle
in the Robert Street parking lot or the canal parking lot and shall
display a parking placard issued by the Borough Clerk in the front
windshield of their vehicle.
C.
Permit holders shall keep their permit in their possession at all
times while hunting on Borough property and shall produce the permit
for inspection upon request by officials of the Borough Police Department
and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.
D.
Permit holders shall only hunt from a portable elevated platform
(tree stand). The use or construction of permanent tree stands is
prohibited. Portable tree stands are used at the user's risk.
The permit holder's name and permit number shall be on the stand
in a location that is readily visible.
E.
Permit holders shall not cross or go on private property. Permit
holders are responsible for knowing the boundaries of the designated
property and the location of all safety zones.
