Penn Township hereby adopts this chapter for the purpose of establishing fire lanes on private property open to public use in order to aid in the extinguishment of fires.
Penn Township may require one or more fire lanes, at least 20 feet in width, which shall be maintained and provided on private property devoted to public use, to provide unimpeded ingress and egress of Fire Department and Police Department vehicles, equipment and personnel. The lanes shall be laid out and properly signed by the property owner to provide reasonable notice to the public of the existence of said lanes and the policing of said lanes. The Fire Chief and the Police Chief of Penn Township shall both approve the layout and signing of said fire lanes by the private property owner.
Any person or persons who obstruct or cause the obstruction of a fire lane or fire hydrant shall be in violation of this chapter and subject to a fine not to exceed $1,000 but not less than $15.
Whenever any provision or requirement of the regulations of any Department of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is more stringent or stricter than a provision or requirement of this chapter, the applicable provision or requirement shall supersede any provision or requirement of this chapter.
