At the regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen in May, the Board shall elect a suitable person, as Clerk of the Board, who shall be called the City Clerk.

The City Clerk shall attend all meetings of the Board of Aldermen and shall keep a faithful and true account of all its proceedings and record the proceedings in the journal. The Clerk shall also record all ordinances of a general nature and all amendments thereto and index the ordinances and amendments. The Clerk shall have custody and safekeeping of the City Seal, the public records of the City, and all documents and papers delivered for safekeeping. The Clerk shall receive, file and attest all papers and documents pertaining to the affairs of the City, and shall endorse thereon a brief statement of the disposition of the matter together with the volume and page of the City journal where the record thereof may be found. The Clerk shall prepare all certificates of election, commissions and appointments and all other official documents required to be issued and shall affix the Seal of the City to all such documents and papers when required to do so. The Clerk shall countersign all City warrants and affix the Seal of the City thereto.

The City Clerk shall gather all fees collected and pay them over to the City Collector and make such accounting as prescribed by State law and as directed by the Mayor, Board of Aldermen or City Administrator.

The Clerk shall be the Election Officer of the City and shall coordinate all City elections with the County election authority in accordance with the ordinances of the City and the laws of the State.

The City Clerk shall make out such tax books and shall extend such taxes and issue such licenses as may be required by the various ordinances of the City.

The Clerk shall oversee and coordinate the operations of the City's business office and data processing operation.

The Clerk shall be the Chief Accountant of the City and shall perform all duties necessary to maintain a complete and accurate accounting system.

The Clerk shall perform all duties necessary to carry out the function of the office, and such other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Mayor, Board of Aldermen and City Administrator.
