A. 
General penalties. Every person convicted of a traffic infraction for a violation of any provision of this chapter shall be punishable as follows: for a first conviction, a fine of not more than $150 or imprisonment for not more than 15 days, or both; for a conviction of a second violation, both of which were committed within a period of 18 months, a fine of not more than $225 or imprisonment for not more than 45 days, or both; upon a conviction of a third or subsequent violation, all of which were committed within a period of 18 months, a fine of not more than $300 or by imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or both.
B. 
Penalties for parking violations. Every person convicted for violation of a parking regulation contained in this chapter shall be punished by a fine in an amount determined by the court, but in no event more than $750. In the event that such person fails to appear on or before the designated return date of an appearance ticket issued for such violation, said fine may be increased by an amount to be determined by the court, but not to exceed an additional $150 for each period of 30 days, or part thereof, after such return date. The Traffic Violations Bureau of the Village of Great Neck Estates is authorized to establish fines for violations of traffic laws, ordinances, rules and regulations, other than the traffic infraction known as "speeding" or a misdemeanor or felony, and penalties for late appearance in response to charges of such violations, all to the extent permitted by General Municipal Law § 371, where the person charged with such violations pleads guilty to such violations as permitted by law, provided that the fines and penalties so established shall not exceed the fines and penalties otherwise authorized by this section.

A. 
Except those parts, if any, which are subject to approval under § 1684 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of New York, this chapter and any orders, rules and/or regulations adopted and/or issued hereunder shall be effective January 1, 1981.
B. 
Any part or parts of this chapter and any orders, rules and/or regulations adopted and/or issued hereunder which are subject to approval under § 1684 of the Vehicle and Traffic Law of the State of New York shall take effect from and after the day on which approval in writing is received from the New York State Department of Transportation.
All prior local laws, ordinances, orders, rules and/or regulations, or parts of such, of this Village regulating traffic and parking are hereby repealed, except that this repeal shall not affect or prevent the prosecution or punishment of any person for any act done or committed in violation of any local law, ordinance, order, rule and/or regulation hereby repealed prior to the taking effect of this chapter.
