A Code of Ethics is herewith adopted to which this Board subscribes
and which shall read as follows:
A.Â
The
public's interest should be advanced to the maximum in all matters
which come before the Commissioner in his or her official capacity.
B.Â
The
Commissioner should immediately disclose publicly the nature and extent
of any direct or indirect private interest he or she may have in any
official action of the Township.
C.Â
Contacts
with persons and groups should be conducted in keeping with the highest
level of trust and dignity.
D.Â
The
competence and effectiveness of the public service should be placed
before the interests of persons or factions.
E.Â
The
policies duly established by the Board of Commissioners should be
obeyed and abided by, as well as the standard rules and regulations
of the performance of the functions of the Township's government.
F.Â
Services,
tangible or intangible, should be equally available to everyone.
G.Â
Confidential
information to which the Commissioner may have access, by virtue of
his or her public office, should not be used for the Commissioner's
personal advantage nor to the advantage of his or her family or friends
or political affiliation.
H.Â
Personal
gifts should not be accepted where there is sufficient reason to believe
that the giver's intention is to influence or reward the official
actions of the Commissioner to whom the gift is extended.
I.Â
In
any transaction, negotiation or litigation to which the Township is
a party, the Commissioner should not represent any private interest,
nor should he or she use his or her office to convey to any private
interest any information or advice not available to the public.
J.Â
The
Commissioner should not use or permit others to use the power and
influence of his or her office to solicit contributions from municipal
employees on behalf of any candidate for political office.
