The School Committee is responsible for providing for and enforcing
the school attendance of all children actually residing in the City in accordance
with state laws and regulations.
The School Committee shall appoint one or more supervisors of attendance
and fix the compensation of such supervisors. The supervisors of attendance
shall meet the standards of qualifications for such work as established by
the Department of Education and shall be at least 21 years of age. The supervisors
of attendance may apprehend and take to school without warrant any truant
or absentee found wandering in the streets or public places and shall have
other duties as established by state laws and regulations.
