There shall be established an Americans With Disabilities Act Committee, whose membership shall be comprised of individuals listed below, as well as other individuals appointed by the Mayor, all of whom shall participate without compensation.
The Committee shall consist of a representative from the City Council, nominated by the City Council, the Business Administrator, the Public Safety Director, the Director of Health, the Director of Public Works, the Director of the Planning Department, the Chief of the City Fire Department, a representative of the Long Branch Board of Education, as nominated by the Board, a senior citizen and two disabled residents of the City of Long Branch. The Mayor shall be authorized to appoint other members to the Committee, who shall preferably be residents of the City of Long Branch; however, this shall not preclude the appointment of a nonresident member of exceptional qualifications and interest in the City of Long Branch. Any individual appointed to the Committee who is not an employee of the city shall be appointed by the Mayor, unless otherwise authorized by this section. All appointees shall serve at the pleasure of the authority appointing said individual.
The Americans With Disabilities Act Committee shall make recommendations to the administration of the City of Long Branch as concerns services, practices and policies in furtherance of a self-evaluation to be implemented by the City of Long Branch pursuant to Public Law 101-336; 42 U.S.C. 12101 et seq.
The Mayor shall select a member of the Committee who shall be designated as the ADA Coordinator and a member who shall be designated as the ADA Deputy Coordinator, both of whom should be employees of the City of Long Branch.
The City of Long Branch hereby adopts a policy of nondiscrimination on the basis of disability. The City of Long Branch does not discriminate on the basis of disability in the admission or access to or treatment or employment in its programs or activities.
