This chapter shall be known and may be cited hereinafter as the "Firearms Law in the Village of Airmont."
The Board of Trustees of the Village of Airmont hereby determines that the discharge of firearms in populated areas is detrimental to the safety and welfare of persons residing in those areas and is detrimental to the environment due to the noise created thereby.
It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge or cause to be discharged any handgun, revolver, shotgun, rifle, firecracker, or any other firearm that emits explosive powder or pellets of any kind, whether explosive or not, within the geographical boundaries of the Village of Airmont.
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to:
A. 
A law enforcement officer in the performance of his official duties.
B. 
The lawful use of a firearm in defense of person or property.
C. 
The authorized use of a pistol, rifle or target range regularly operated and maintained by any duly organized membership corporation and wholly on premises owned, rented or leased by said corporation, but not within 1,000 feet of any dwelling, and provided that said use will be conducted with due regard for the safety of the surrounding community.
This chapter shall be enforced by the Ramapo Police Department or the Mayor, Deputy Mayor or Code Enforcement Officer of the Village of Airmont, each of whom is hereby authorized and empowered to issue an appearance ticket returnable in the Justice Court of the Town of Ramapo or the Village of Airmont for any violation of any provision of this chapter.
Any person violating any provision of this chapter shall be guilty of a violation punishable by a fine not to exceed $5,000 or imprisonment for a period not to exceed 15 days, or both.
