Editor's Note: Ordinance No. 2003-17 (933), adopted 12-1-2003, amended the title of this chapter from “Signs on Route 35” to “Signs on Route 35 Southbound.”
In the interest of traffic safety and to preserve the residential character of the neighborhoods, no person shall erect or maintain, or permit to be erected or maintained, any commercial or business sign on any parcel of land bordering on State Highway Route 35 southbound in this municipality.
Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to prohibit the erection and maintenance of the following types of signs:
A. 
Police and highway markers, signals and signs erected and maintained by the proper police agency or agencies or by the proper highway officials or departments.
B. 
Signs indicating the name of the occupant of a residence.
C. 
Signs to be erected by the State of New Jersey or other governmental agencies designating the general business district of this municipality.
Any person, firm or corporation that shall be convicted of a violation of a provision of this chapter shall, upon conviction whereof by any court authorized by law to hear and determine the matter, be subject to a fine of no less than $100 and no more than $1,000, imprisonment not to exceed 90 days or community service of not more than 90 days, or any combination of fine, imprisonment and community service, as such court in its discretion may impose. Each day that such violation exists shall constitute a separate offense.
