The City Council may consider a formal application
for consideration and approval to designate an honorary name for City
and park facilities upon the following basic criteria:
A. The person honored must have been a resident of New
Rochelle for at least 10 years.
B. If the person is deceased, he or she must have been
deceased for a minimum period of 12 months.
C. The person would have to have had a significant association
with the park, site or facility; or contributed significantly to the
City as a whole; or achieved significant recognition historically
on the City level; or donated or contributed a significant amount
for the acquisition and/or development of the park, site or facility;
or provided direct and significant volunteer services benefiting the
public as a local or community leader.
D. If the park, site or facility has been previously
named for someone else, the application for renaming shall be sent
to the City's Historical and Landmark Review Board for an advisory
opinion to the City Council.
E. A formal application must be made to the City Manager's
office detailing the following:
(1) The full name of the person to be honored:
(2) The date of birth and the date of death, if applicable,
of the person to be honored;
(3) The history of residence of the person to be honored;
(4) A brief biography of the person being honored, including
all other data relevant to the commemorative naming;
(5) Details of how the person contributed to the acquisition
or development of the park. site or facility or how the person to
be honored enhanced the City; and
(6) Letters of support from City organizations or petitions
signed by City residents demonstrating significant support for the
proposed naming.
