Unless the context specifically indicates otherwise, in this Part 2 the following words have the meanings indicated.
AGRICULTURE
The science or art of cultivating the soil, producing crops, and raising livestock.
CHIEF
The Chief Sanitary Engineer or an authorized deputy, agent, or representative of the Chief.
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
The Department of Public Works of Queen Anne's County.
DIRECTOR
The Director of Public Works of Queen Anne's County or an authorized deputy, agent, or representative of the Director.
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
The lines and appurtenances that deliver potable water from a water supply system or storage facility to individual properties.
EASEMENT
An acquired legal right for the specific use of land owned by others.
FLOW CHARACTERISTICS
The variations in the flow rate in a particular user. These variations are typically described by such terms as "average daily flow," "peak daily flow," "minimum monthly flow," "maximum hourly flow," etc.
FRONT FOOTAGE OR FRONTAGE
The length in feet of the property line or lines abutting a water distribution system.
INDUSTRIAL OR BUSINESS
Any institutional, industrial, or commercial use as defined in §§ 18-1-030, 18-1-031, and 18-1-032 of the Queen Anne's County Zoning Ordinance.[1]
LIEN
A charge on real or personal property for the satisfaction of a debt or duty.
LOT
Any plot or parcel of land occupied or intended to be occupied by a principal building or use, or a group of buildings, and its accessory buildings and uses, and having frontage on a road.
MULTIFAMILY OR ATTACHED DWELLING
Two or more adjoining dwelling units, each of which is separated from the others by one or more unpierced walls from ground to roof.
PARCEL
A tract or plot of land.
pH
The logarithm of the reciprocal of the hydrogen-ion concentration.
POTABLE WATER
Water fit for human consumption and domestic use, which is sanitary and normally free of minerals, organic substances, and toxic agents in excess of reasonable amounts for domestic use.
RATE SCHEDULE
A schedule, table, or chart detailing specific charges for each service by unit of low volume, front footage, or other measurement.
RESIDENCE
Any private home, tenant house, apartment, hotel, marina, mobile home, institution, or place where people reside for any period of time.
ROAD
A public or private right-of-way that provides a public means of access to abutting property.
SANITARY COMMISSION
The County Commissioners of Queen Anne's County who sit as the Sanitary Commission having jurisdiction over the Sanitary District.
SANITARY DISTRICT
Queen Anne's County, State of Maryland, exclusive of any incorporated municipality.
SINGLE-FAMILY DETACHED DWELLING
A dwelling designed for and occupied by not more than one family and having no roof, wall, or floor in common with any other dwelling unit.
STORAGE FACILITIES
A tank or other reservoir used for the storage of water.
UNIT
A house, building, mobile home, condominium unit, commercial business, rental or leasehold unit, vessel, pleasure craft, or any similar structure or facility.
USER CHARGE
A charge levied on users of a water system for the cost of operation and maintenance of the system.
ZONING ORDINANCE
The Queen Anne's County Zoning Ordinance as may be amended from time to time.[2]
