GENERAL REFERENCES
Parks and public lands — See Ch. 356.
Streets and sidewalks — See Ch. 425.
There is established a Department of Public Works in and for the Borough.
The Department of Public Works as established shall be subject to the rules and regulations adopted by the Mayor and Council of the Borough and shall be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
A. 
Maintenance of all Borough-owned property, including parks, playgrounds, buildings and athletic facilities.
B. 
Maintenance, repair and storage of all machinery and equipment purchased by the Borough for use by the Department of Public Works.
C. 
Maintenance, cleaning and repair of all Borough-accepted streets and roads.
D. 
Maintenance and repair of all Borough catch basins, storm drains and drainage easements.
E. 
Maintenance and repair of all Borough-owned signs.
F. 
Maintenance of all Borough crosswalks and road markings.
G. 
Maintenance of all Borough rights-of-way.
H. 
Supervision of Borough subcontractors for snowplowing and sanding during winter months.
I. 
Preparation of recommendations related to personnel changes.
A. 
The Superintendent of the Department of Public Works shall be appointed by the Mayor and Council for a one year term ending on January 1 of the calendar year next following his appointment.
B. 
The Superintendent of the Department of Public Works shall be a resident of the Borough unless such requirement is specifically waived by the Mayor and Council.
C. 
The Superintendent of the Department of Public Works shall be a full-time employee at an annual salary established annually by ordinance of the Mayor and Council.[1]

D. 
The Superintendent of the Department of Public Works shall function under the general supervision and direction of the Department of Public Works Committee of the Borough Council.
E. 
The Superintendent of the Department of Public Works shall be responsible for and be required to confer with and follow any and all recommendations of the Borough Engineer on work requiring engineering specifications or special technical knowledge.
The Superintendent of the Department of Public Works shall employ such full-time and part-time employees as the Council may approve and authorize by resolution and assign such employees to duties in the Department of Public Works.
