A.
Generally. The Township normally shall pay its employees on a weekly payroll schedule, that is, once in every week, or a total of 52 times annually. Each payroll period shall consist of five working days, so that the daily rate of pay of each employee normally shall be 1/260 of his annual salary. In order to avoid the possibility of a year in which 53 pays could occur, adjustment may be made as to the weekly salary received in the given year.
B.
Hourly rate. The hourly rate shall be computed by dividing the annual salary by the number of workdays in the calendar year and then by dividing that number by the number of work hours in a day, either seven or eight hours.[1]

Editor's Note: Amended at time of adoption of Code (see Ch. 1, General Provisions, Art. I).
C.
Normal workday. Excluding lunch breaks and depending upon schedules established by various departments due to the nature of work or service, seven continuous hours shall constitute a normal workday and 35 hours shall constitute a normal workweek. Also, eight continuous hours shall constitute a normal workday and 40 hours shall constitute a normal workweek. In the specific case of the Police Department, a normal workday shall consist of one shift not to exceed 12 hours. A normal workweek shall consist of not less than 34 and no more than 48 hours.
D.
Commencement of workweek. For the purpose of payroll calculations, the workweek shall commence at 12:01 a.m. Sunday.
E.
Issue of paychecks. Paychecks are to be issued every Friday.
A.
Computation of overtime. Overtime computation shall commence only after the employee has worked the full 40 hours whose normal workweek is 40 hours and 35 hours whose normal workweek is 35 hours during the workweek for which overtime compensation is sought. In the Police Department any hours worked over the normally scheduled work shift will be considered as overtime. Holidays, vacation days, and paid sick days may be counted toward the hours for overtime. Authorized overtime compensation shall be computed at an hourly rate equal to 1 1/2 times the equivalent hourly rate. Overtime after the first 1/10 hour shall be computed to the nearest 1/10 hour.
B.
Distribution. Overtime shall be distributed equally insofar as practicable among the employees who are qualified and able to perform the required work.
C.
Notice. The Supervisor will diligently attempt to give employees advance notice on all overtime work.
D.
Assignment. In the situation whereby the Supervisor cannot fill his overtime requirement after exhausting all of the procedures, as herein agreed and set forth, then the employees who are qualified to do the job with the least amount of worked overtime will be assigned to do the work.
E.
Preference. The Supervisor shall maintain and post a current list of employees and the amount of overtime they have worked. Employees who are qualified and have logged the lowest amount of overtime will be given preference for the overtime work. Any employee who refuses overtime assignments will be charged for the amount of hours worked by his substitute.
F.
Exemptions. The following positions are not eligible to receive overtime compensation: all salaried employees other than members of the Police Department below the rank of Lieutenant.[1]
