Subchapter C of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building
Code shall be enforced by the Director of Code Enforcement or his designee.
A Fire Inspector shall be appointed by the Town Board. Anyone so appointed
on a full-time basis shall be subject to examination to determine his qualifications.
His appointment shall continue during good behavior and satisfactory service,
and he shall not be removed from office except for cause after public hearing
as required by law. Any such person shall report to the Director of Code Enforcement.
An Assistant Fire Inspector shall be appointed by the Town Board, who
shall work under the supervision of the Director of Code Enforcement, his
duties, hours and rates of pay to be established by the Town Board. Anyone
so appointed on a full-time basis shall be subject to examination to determine
his qualifications. His appointment shall continue during good behavior and
satisfactory service, and he shall not be removed from office except for cause
after a public hearing as required by law.

The Fire Advisory Board, which is hereby established, shall consist
of two (2) Town Board members; a Fire Commissioner, or his designee, and the
Fire Chief, or his designee, from each of Montrose, Verplanck, Continental
Village, Croton-on-Hudson, Mohegan Lake and Peekskill; the Director of Code
Enforcement; and one (1) officer from the Town of Cortlandt Police Department.
A Fire Commissioner from each of the above-mentioned districts shall
be recommended by the Board of Fire Commissioners of each district and shall
be appointed by the Town Board for a term of two (2) years. The Town Supervisor
shall designate the Town Board members who will serve.
The Chairman of the Fire Advisory Board shall be elected from and by
the members of the Fire Advisory Board at their first meeting following the
adoption of this chapter, and every January thereafter. The Chairman shall
hold office for one (1) year.
The Fire Advisory Board shall advise the Town Board on all policy matters
concerning fire prevention.
The Fire Advisory Board may request and shall receive so far as may
be necessary, in the discharge of its duties, the assistance and cooperation
of other officials of the town.[1]
