It is the intent of this chapter to protect the health and general welfare of those engaged in recreational pursuits in the Town of Cortlandt as it applies to the use of public facilities owned by the Town of Cortlandt.
All recreational areas owned by the Town of Cortlandt shall be used during daylight hours only unless the Recreation Department of the Town of Cortlandt issues a directive otherwise for an activity sponsored by said Department.
In all recreational areas owned by the Town of Cortlandt, the use of power boats is prohibited unless permission is granted by the Recreation Department for such use.
In all recreational areas owned by the Town of Cortlandt, the use of engine-powered devices for use on snow or ice is prohibited unless permission for such use is granted by the Recreation Department. This does not apply to vehicles used in the normal flow of traffic on prescribed roadways or travelways.
The mooring, storage and launching of boats on Lake Meahagh and other bodies of water owned by the Town of Cortlandt shall be prohibited except in areas designated and/or permitted by the Recreation Department of the Town of Cortlandt. Such designation and/or permission shall also apply to all construction of docks and other facilities in and along the shoreline of Lake Meahagh and other bodies of water owned by the Town of Cortlandt.
All hunting and carrying of firearms is prohibited on all lands owned by the Town of Cortlandt.

Any person violating this chapter shall be guilty of a violation and shall be punished by a fine not to exceed two hundred fifty dollars ($250.) or up to fifteen (15) days in jail or by a civil penalty not exceeding one thousand dollars ($1,000.).
