[Adopted 2-22-1971 by L.L. No. 1-1971 as Ch. 124, Art. II, of the 1971 Code; amended 2-5-1973; 1-7-1985 by L.L. No. 1-1985]
A.
General.
(1)
The general health, welfare and good of the inhabitants of the Village require that there be reasonable speed limits for vehicles traveling on roads, whether state-, county- or Village-maintained, within the Village. Experience has revealed that excessively high limits endanger the lives and well-being of inhabitants of the Village and of others traveling within the Village.
(2)
Except for one short strip of state-maintained highway, the maximum speed limits do not anywhere exceed 40 miles per hour. Near accidents and accidents, one of a fatal nature, have occurred as a result of the failure of the Department of Transportation of the State of New York to accede to the repeated requests of the Village to lower the speed limits so that the maximum speed limit will be consonant with the safety and well-being of the inhabitants and of travelers within the Village.
