No person, firm or corporation may operate a retail shop for the sale of pistols and revolvers without first obtaining a license from the City Council effective for not more than one year from the date of issue.
The cost of each license shall be $5.
No license issued under the provisions of this article shall be transferable.
The granting of such license shall be subject to the following conditions. If any of these conditions are breached, the license shall be forfeited and the licensee subject to punishment as provided in this article:
A. 
The business shall be carried on only in the building designated in the license.
B. 
The license or a copy thereof, certified by the issuing authority, shall be displayed on the premises where it can be easily read.
C. 
No pistol or revolver shall be sold in violation of any provision contained in Chapter 11 of Title 47 of the General Laws of the State of Rhode Island, nor shall a pistol or revolver be sold under any circumstances unless the purchaser is personally known to the seller or shall present clear evidence of his or her identity.

Any person who violates the provisions of this article shall be punished by a fine of not more than $200.
