Pursuant to Section 11 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act (P.L. 1983, c. 383; N.J.S.A. 52:27D-202) the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code shall be locally enforced in the Borough of Medford Lakes.
The local enforcing agency shall be the Bureau of Fire Prevention, which is hereby created.
The local enforcement agency shall enforce the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the codes and regulations adopted under it in all buildings, structures and premises within the established boundaries of the Borough of Medford Lakes, other than owner-occupied one- and two-family dwellings, and shall faithfully comply with the requirements of the Uniform Fire Safety Act and the Uniform Fire Code.
The local enforcing agency established by § 122-2 of this chapter shall carry out the periodic inspections of life-hazard uses required by the Uniform Fire Code on behalf of the Commissioner of Community Affairs, and shall also be responsible for the enforcement of the smoke detector provisions as established by the Uniform Fire Code.
The local enforcing agency established by § 122-2 of this chapter shall be a part of the Department of Public Safety and shall be under the direct supervision and control of the Fire Official who shall report to the Borough Manager.
A. 
The local enforcing agency shall be under the supervision of a Fire Official who shall he appointed by the Borough Manager of the Borough of Medford Lakes. In making this appointment, the appointing authority shall make the appointment from among a list of three recommendations provided by the Chief of the Fire Department.
B. 
The Fire Official shall serve for a term of one year. Any vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term.
C. 
Such inspectors and other employees as may he necessary in the local enforcing agency shall be appointed by the Borough Manager of the Borough of Medford Lakes upon the recommendation of the Fire Official.
D. 
Fire Official inspectors and other employees of the enforcing agency shall be subject to removal by the Borough Manager of the Borough of Medford Lakes for inefficiency or misconduct. Each person shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard by the appointing authority or a designated hearing officer prior to removal.
Pursuant to Section 15 and 17 of the Uniform Fire Safety Act (N.J.S.A. 52:27D-206 and 52:27D-208, respectively), any person aggrieved by any order of the local enforcement agency shall have the right to appeal to the Construction Board of Appeals of Burlington County.

The fees for inspections shall be as established from time to time and adopted by resolution by the Borough Council.

The permit fees shall be as established by the Uniform Fire Code, which fees shall be adopted by resolution by the Borough Council.

A. 
In all Use Group R-3 dwellings subject to the requirements of N.J.A.C. 5:70-2.3, smoke detectors shall be installed, as follows:
(1) 
On each level of the premises; and
(2) 
Outside of each separate sleeping area.
B. 
The smoke detectors required in Subsection A above shall be located in accordance with NFPA 74-1984, incorporated herein by reference, and maintained in working order. The detectors shall not be required to be interconnected.
C. 
Smoke detectors may be battery-powered and shall be listed in accordance with ANSI/UL 217, incorporated herein by reference, unless otherwise specified by applicable Building Code.[1] A/C-powered smoke detectors shall be accepted as meeting the requirements of this section.
