The Borough of Wilkinsburg hereby elects to administer and enforce the provisions of the International Fire Prevention Code, as amended from time to time, and its regulations, as consistent with the edition adopted by reference in the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act.
The International Fire Prevention Code, contained in 34 Pa. Code, as amended from time to time, is hereby adopted and incorporated herein by reference as the fire prevention code of the Borough of Wilkinsburg, with the additions, insertions, deletions and changes, if any, as prescribed in this chapter.

Administration and enforcement of the International Fire Prevention Code within the Borough of Wilkinsburg shall be under the supervision of the Building Code Official of the Borough of Wilkinsburg or his/her designee.
All secured key access boxes shall have provision to show an alarm when such key box is opened and/or removed from its installation. All key boxes shall be monitored by an alarm monitoring provider. The alarm monitoring provider shall notify Allegheny County 911 immediately when key box is opened or removed from the installation location. The key box shall contain:
A. 
Keys to locked points of ingress, whether on the interior or exterior of such buildings;
B. 
Keys to locked mechanical equipment rooms;
C. 
Keys to locked electrical rooms;
D. 
Keys to elevator controls;
E. 
Keys to fire alarm control panel pull stations;
F. 
Keys to other areas as directed by the Code Official.
Portable unvented fuel-fired heating equipment shall be prohibited in all zoning use classifications. The provisions of this section shall supersede any and all sections of the fire, building or mechanical codes. Portable unvented fuel-fired heating equipment shall be permitted in single-family dwelling units.
The geographic limits referred to in the code, in which storage of hazardous materials is prohibited, are hereby established. All such hazardous materials are permitted only in industrial and institutional zoning districts.
Permits and fees for the administration and enforcement undertaken pursuant to this chapter and the code shall be established by Borough Council by resolution from time to time.
Any violation of this chapter shall constitute a civil offense punishable, upon conviction thereof by a District Justice, by a fine of not less than $100 nor more than $1,000 or by imprisonment not exceeding 30 days, or both, plus costs of prosecution. Each day of violation shall constitute a separate and distinct offense.
A Board of Appeals shall be established by resolution of Borough Council in conformity with the requirements of the relevant provisions of the code, as amended from time to time, and for the purposes set forth therein. If at any time enforcement and administration is undertaken jointly with one or more other municipalities, said Board of Appeals shall be established by joint action of the participating municipalities.
All relevant ordinances, regulations and policies of the Borough of Wilkinsburg not governed by the code shall remain in full force and effect.
