[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Bethel 11-13-1978. Amendments noted where applicable.]
No person shall, without a license from the Board of Selectmen, peddle, vend, hawk, sell or offer or solicit for sale, upon any public street or from house to house within the limits of the Town of Bethel, Connecticut, any goods, wares, services or their merchandise, except sales by farmers and gardeners of the produce of their farms and gardens; the sale, distribution and delivery of ice, milk and bakery goods; and the sale house-to-house of newspapers, magazines, cosmetics and home products.
The issuance of such license shall be within the discretion of the Board of Selectmen, who are authorized to issue a license to any proper person for one day, one week, one month or for any number of months not exceeding one year; and such Selectmen are authorized to require the applicant for a license to submit such evidence as shall be required by the Selectmen as to the fitness of such applicant and as to the accuracy of such weights and measures as may be used by the applicant in connection with his business.
A. 
Every person so licensed shall pay, for the use of the Town of Bethel, a fee of $100 for one day, $200 for one week, $300 for each month and $400 for one year.
B. 
Such license shall be subject to revocation by said Board of Selectmen at any time for cause.
A. 
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to persons conducting an established store or established place of business within the Town of Bethel.
B. 
The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to any bona fide charitable, civic, educational, fraternal or religious organization situated in the Town of Bethel.
No person shall be granted a license under this provision of this chapter unless they have a valid sales tax permit from the State of Connecticut.
Every person who shall violate the provisions of this chapter shall be liable to a fine not exceeding $100 for each violation, and each day on which a person shall violate the provisions of this chapter shall be considered a separate violation.
